LU SPORTS – 7v7 LEAGUE RULES & POLICIES
1. FORMAT & GAME PLAY
7v7 format consists of 6 field players and 1 goalkeeper. Games are played with a 45-minute running clock. There is no offside rule. Substitutions are on the fly. All games must begin at their scheduled time.
2. RESTARTS & BALL RULES
Kick-ins replace throw-ins. The ball must remain below knee height on all kick-ins. Opponents must give 3 yards on all restarts, including kick-ins, free kicks, and corner kicks. A size 5 ball must be used, and each team is responsible for providing a game ball.
3. GOALKEEPER RULES
Goalkeepers are not allowed to punt the ball. Distribution must be done by throw or by playing the ball with their feet.
4. FOULS & DISCIPLINE
Slide tackling is not allowed. After 6 team fouls in a game, the opposing team will be awarded a penalty kick.
A yellow card results in the player being removed for 2 minutes. The team may substitute during this time and does not play short.
Two yellow cards in the same game result in a red card.
A red card results in the team playing one player short. The player will be suspended, with suspension length determined by LU Sports based on severity.
5. CONDUCT POLICY (ZERO TOLERANCE)
Any fighting will result in an automatic 3-year suspension from the league and facility. Wilmington City Police may be contacted for any violent incident on Chase Fieldhouse property. This is a zero-tolerance policy.
No abusive or foul language will be tolerated from players or coaches, in English or Spanish. Players or coaches may be removed from the facility at LU Sports discretion.
6. EQUIPMENT & ROSTERS
Turf shoes or cleats are allowed. Metal cleats are not permitted.
Shin guards are strongly recommended. Players choose to participate at their own risk if not wearing shin guards.
There is no roster limit. All players must complete the waiver and registration before participating.
Teams must have matching uniforms by Week 3.
7. FEES & PLAYOFFS
Each team is responsible for a $50 referee fee, paid in cash before each game.
All teams qualify for playoffs. Seeding is based on regular season standings.
Players must participate in at least one regular season game to be eligible for playoffs.
8. FORFEITS, LATE POLICY & MINIMUM PLAYERS
A 5-minute grace period is allowed. The game clock will still start at the scheduled time. If a team is not ready after 5 minutes, the game will be recorded as a forfeit.
A minimum of 5 players is required to start a match. If a team drops below 5 players during the game, the match will be ended and recorded as a forfeit.
Any team that forfeits is responsible for both referee fees ($100 total). The opposing team will be awarded a 3-0 win.
Cancelling within 24 hours of game time is considered a forfeit. Multiple forfeits may result in removal from the league without refund.
9. LEAGUE POLICIES
Referee decisions are final. LU Sports has final say on all disputes.
Games may be delayed or rescheduled due to weather. Updates will be communicated via email and/or social media. Rescheduled games will be placed based on field availability.
No unregistered players are allowed. LU Sports reserves the right to remove any ineligible players.
If both teams are wearing similar colors, the away team must change or wear pinnies.
10. WAIVERS
All players must complete the waiver before participating. Any player without a completed waiver will not be allowed to play. No exceptions.
